In order to meet our objective of delivering excellent service to our guests and, in addition, to limit the impact Christiana Lodge may have on climate change, we jumped at the opportunity to install a grid-tied green-energy generation system. Our consulting electrical engineer properly investigated our energy consumption and proposed a system to supply in the demand of our operation, including 18 rooms.

The system consists of state-of-the-art batteries, inverters, and photovoltaic panels.

This investment was made possible through the recovery of tourism to Plettenberg Bay after the Covid pandemic.

We also entered into a contract with Bitou Municipality to discharge any excess electricity generated into the municipal system. The battery system is designed to discharge maximum electricity back into the municipal grid during peak periods in winter when our own demand drops.

We are excited about this co-operation between public and private sector for the benefit of all.
