Plettenberg Bay is located on South Africa’s Garden Route about 210 km from Port Elizabeth and about 600 km from Cape Town. Plettenberg Bay has a lot of attractions to offer but is best known for the impressive Robberg Peninsula with the Robberg Nature Reserve . We have to admit that we only visited the Robberg Nature Reserve on our first holiday in South Africa . We didn’t even give the city itself a chance. Pity! Because on our second visit, Plettenberg Bay completely convinced us. Fantastic miles of golden sandy beaches, a traditional weaving mill, breathtaking viewpoints and numerous water activities are just waiting for you to be discovered.
In this post, we take you to the charming coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, aptly christened “Bahia Formosa” by early Portuguese explorers, meaning “beautiful bay”. Be curious about what sights Plettenberg Bay has to offer, where you can find the most beautiful beaches and in which restaurants the food is particularly delicious.
Overnight in Plettenberg Bay: Christiana Lodge
Christiana Lodge * offers luxury 4-star accommodation in Solar Beach, a select and upscale area of Plettenberg Bay. The lodge is only a 5-minute walk from the enchanting Robberg Beach and offers comfort at the highest level. We stayed 3 nights at the fabulous Christiana Lodge * with two pools and stunning views of the sea and Robberg Nature Reserve and wished we could have stayed a little longer.
Christiana Lodge: The rooms
The 18 rooms are wonderfully chic, spacious and luxuriously furnished and have certain details that we particularly liked. Some of the rooms are furnished with fabrics from the local Mungo Design weaving mill ( find out more about our visit to Old Nick’s Plett here), which gives the rooms a special flair.
We stayed in the Superior Room 4 with a sea view and a view of the Robberg Nature Reserve and absolutely loved it. The bed is very comfortable, the bathroom is spacious and stylish and the cookies in the jar are to die for!
The suites in the newly built House Philip are even more luxurious. Admittedly, when we peeked into House Philip Room 1, we almost freaked out at the view and the private pool!
Christiana Lodge: The facility
In the Christiana Lodge * there is not only a pool in the center of the lodge right next to the tasteful lounge, but also a second pool in the lush green garden in front of the lodge. We especially enjoyed swimming in the second round pool. And let’s be honest, what could be nicer than relaxing by the private pool with a cocktail in hand after a long and strenuous hike in the Robberg Nature Reserve? – Maybe just relaxing in the private pool, but as already mentioned, that is also possible in the Christiana Lodge *!
In addition to the two pools and outdoor areas, there is a chic communal area, a small garden area and a spacious secured car park. Numerous exciting books about the region are available in the common area.
Christiana Lodge: The breakfast
When we reported on Instagram that we will be staying at Christiana Lodge * for the next 3 nights, we received some messages for breakfast. It’s supposed to be fantastic, we’re told. So, of course, the night before we were extremely excited about what awaited us the next morning. There are two breakfast rooms in total at Christiana Lodge *, one downstairs right next to the pool and another in the newly built house with stunning panoramic views of Robberg Nature Reserve. Although we already loved having breakfast downstairs, we were admittedly speechless when we had breakfast at House Philip with this view on our second morning.
Breakfast includes fresh juice, coffee or tea, toast or bread with jam on request, a cold breakfast consisting of yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit and a hot breakfast of your choice. Heavenly! We particularly liked the specially selected bowls and the magical crockery.
What makes the Christiana Lodge so special and why we can warmly recommend a visit to the lodge? The warm-hearted owner, who even with a lodge with 18 rooms and 4 stars still lends a hand from time to time and thus ensures an absolutely authentic and all-round coherent concept, which has completely convinced us – and obviously also some of our fellow travellers.
