OENA Chasing the Sun Part 2

Sep 1, 2023

No visit to Addo would be complete without a drive in the Addo Elephant Park. Unfortunately the next morning was a cold, and a rainy day lay ahead, so we didn’t get to see any of the giants roaming around in the park. Naturally the kids where a bit disappointed, so we headed right back to the lodge and booked an afternoon drive with our guide Marco. Here is where things got really interesting. Marco showed us their abundance of wildlife in Longhill Reserve and kids were entertained by the amazing interaction with this special guide. After the holiday this was their highlight of our entire tour.

As we were heading home and the sun started setting we came across the young Longhill Giraffe bull sizing up the neighbouring reserves old and much larger bull. It was such a spectacular sighting and we’ve never seen our kids so quiet and intrigued.

What an amazing 2 days spent in the Addo area. Next morning the excitement levels was high as everyone knew we were heading back to the coast and to one of our favourite coastal towns – Kenton on Sea. Here we decided to stay at OENA’s newest partner – The House Quarters, owned and designed by the famous architect Pollos Purden, and managed by her sister Janda. Such a warm welcome. If you haven’t visited the area. Kenton on Sea is situated between the Kariega River en Boesmans River right agains an spectacular stretch of wild coast.

Our accommodation is in the centre of town and we could finally do some laundry, and treat the wife’s to a Spa treatment at the in-house Spa of The House Quarters. Kids wanted to enjoy some beach time, because here the sun was really out, and it didn’t feel anything like winter in the Cape. Sunshine Coast in full force.

After two relaxing nights in Kenton on Sea we turned around and started driving back past Gqeberha on our way to Cape St Francis and Cape St Francis Resort. Thank you to the team for hosting us as this was not part of our OENA Portfolio. St Francis Bay is busy during winter School holidays because of the annual Corona J-Bay Surf Open in Jeffreys Bay.

Final stop was Hartenbos to break up the long drive and to get some of the kids favourite mini doughnuts and a swim in the ATKV indoor hot swimming pool. What an incredible holiday and one we will never forget. OENA Chasing the Sun is definitely a great option for touring down the Eastern Coast of South Africa. Until next year!
