A two-hour drive from Cape Town, the five-star country house comprising of ten deluxe rooms – double, twin & family rooms plus a romantic honeymoon suite. All rooms are furnished exquisitely with understated elegance and an authentic rustic charm.

Jan Harmsgat is also home to a charismatic country restaurant, “Just Amy”, which offers delicious cuisine, delightfully conjured up from fresh, local produce. Expect comforting dishes such as an aged fillet of beef, grilled sole with mussel and white wine sauce, Springbok loin with red wine sauce, or their famous slow-roasted lamb shank.

To accompany your meal and stay, JHG also makes award-winning wines. Each wine is produced from single blocks on the farm. There is no cellar on at JHG, so the winemaking is outsourced. Lourens Van Der Westhuizen of Arendsig made all the wines until the 2019 vintage in which Francois Haasbroek of Blackwater Wines took over. The wines are made with minimal interference to highlight their unique terroir. The portfolio includes seven single cultivar wines and one Cap Classique. Their Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, and their flagship Pinotage were standouts for me. All very accessibly priced for everyday drinking; the kind of wines where one bottle turns to two very easily!
Fill your weekend with leisurely walks, bike rides, picnics under the pecan nut trees or farm drives on their game vehicle where you might encounter their resident Wildebeests. There is also an in-house spa, for the ultimate pampering.
We didn’t want to leave… Thank you to Francois and the team for making our stay so memorable.
