The weather is peachy, the beach is lovely and we’re ready to welcome your family to Paternoster over the Summer months (November – March). To those in the know, our small fishing village offers an ideal setting for a family getaway with activities to suit the entire family – toddlers and grandparents included! Whether your family love the beach, nature adventures, or cultural experiences, there are plenty of things to do in and around Paternoster over the summer. So pull out the pen and paper and let’s start planning your trip to the West Coast.
Paternoster Vitamin Sea:
If you’ve never been to Paternoster before, picture a little Greece, with white buildings, pristine sandy shores and clear azure waters. Spend sunny days building sandcastles or splashing in the gentle waves. For those who prefer working up a sweat, the main beach is also hosting the Paternoster Beach Fest from 1 – 2 December which you can read more about here. If you’d like to enter a team, check out our page for self-catering accommodation options or Guesthouse.
Horseback Riding on the Beach:
Few experiences are as magical as riding horses on the beach. Several stables in Paternoster offer guided horseback rides for kids and adults, allowing your family to explore the coastline and neighbouring nature reserves in a unique and memorable way. Better yet, you can be a complete novice and still enjoy this activity!
Cape Columbine Lighthouse:
Take a short trip to the Cape Columbine Lighthouse which neighbours our Collection and explore the rugged surroundings. The lighthouse itself is an iconic landmark, and the rocky cliffs and tidal pools offer fantastic opportunities for exploration. Don’t forget to bring your camera for some family photos! The Wharf:
In the mood for some shopping, gelato, waffles and art gallery meandering? The Wharf is located a mere 2-minute walk from our Studios and Coral Villa and is a hit with all family members – especially the gelato stand (as you can imagine).
Die Koelkamers Teater:
Also located at The Wharf is the Koelkamer Teater – a unique theatre dedicated to providing a platform for creatives of all kinds, with a focus on performing arts, fine arts, photography, book launches and live music. For the latest performances, visit: https://www.diekoelkamers.com/
WOW eBikes:
A firm favourite with all of our guests is a WOW eBikes experience that takes you along the beachfront and into the nature reserve. If your family isn’t the fittest, not to worry as your assisted with battery-powered eBikes with thick wheels making the entire experience a breeze!
Paternoster Kayaking:
Few realise that Paternoster offers spectacular whale watching experiences (move over Hermanus). Take a look at some of the recent sightings during the Spring of Southern Right Whales and their calves, dolphins, seals and much more marine life.
Gonana Collection
So to whoever thought that Paternoster was just a one-night destination with a world-renowned restaurant (Wolfgat), think again. We’re incredibly proud of our family-friendly village as well as our child-friendly and pet-friendly self-catering properties which are all ecoconscious and kinder to the environment – something which the future generation will be very pleased about!
